HoloPundits representatives spoke this week at the state of Tennessee’s Enabling Technology Summit in Nashville. Doug Smith, Director of Learning Success, and Colin Saunders, Director of Content, provided information about how the Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) is using virtual reality to help their customers with career exploration and employability.
For autistic and other neurodivergent individuals seeking independence and employment, there is very often the significant challenge of how to provide meaningful learning opportunities in a safe manner that does not expose individuals to the risk of physical or psychological harm.
The project team deployed XR Guru’s platform and VR app to show individuals with developmental disabilities a variety of career pathways. Each career pathway, determined by IDD professionals, shows the participant a day in the life of the job, exposing the user to real-life scenarios.
Through VR technology, participants can experience the feeling of being immersed in a real work environment, allowing them to better understand a potential career path before pursuing it.
Each experience is also available on tablets and laptops for increased accessibility and inclusivity.
